Comment on Midland Roundtable Athlete of the Year by West High Fan Wed, 14 May 2008 19:46:39 +0000 It's too bad Casey Rogers decided to concentrate on only basketball. He's one fine baseball player (pitcher) and used to be the quarterback for his class's football teams. Although the concentration landed him a full ride scholarship for BB at Carroll. He's great at all sports. All five are fine choices. Hard decision.

Comment on Legion baseball plans to have honors teams by Toph Wed, 14 May 2008 17:44:48 +0000 To "That's Stupid" The average A' team typically consists of four players of each legion age: 18, 17, 16, 15, 14.FYI the average age of a Billings Blue Jay or Cardinal is 15-16. I played A' ball, and the most 18 year-olds we had on the field at one time was four. So, if you average that, and I am assuming Billings Public Schools have not deteriorated to the point where you can't, you will see that 16 is the average age of a Class A' player. In fact, our starting shortstop my last year was FOURTEEN. That's just the way Class A' ball is, you deal with large age gaps. You rarely have a team made up of Juniors and Seniors like the Scarlets and Royals. The biggest difference between Class A', and AA' in Montana is pitching. Class AA' has better arms and more of them. You can go pretty far in A' with a decent one two punch, while AA' requires a good rotation to be competative. I respect Billings' baseball tradition, but I also keep it in perspective. A hundred thousand people is a large talent pool to draw from for two teams. I would hope they would be competative against towns the size of Glendive who probably start at least four players ages sixteen and below.

Comment on Midland Roundtable Athlete of the Year by TH Wed, 14 May 2008 15:13:09 +0000 We should invent a scoring system of our own. We could assign points for participation (three sport athletes would benefit), honors awarded, outstanding achievement (such as state records set, etc), college scholarships, etc. The problem is that I can think of a glaring omission in the nominees if such a system were implemented.
Comment on Last Year’s Class AA Legion Standings by mediacrit Wed, 14 May 2008 14:45:04 +0000 Hey, let's try a new line here. Who's got the worst sports coverage in the state? I say the BOZO Chronic in a landslide! Best? Great Falls Trib??
